Blind long distance athletes participate world wide in various forms of endurance sports, such as long distance running, cycling, canoeing, etc.

In South Africa many blind athletes have completed successfully in many of our large and popular road endurance events, including the well known Comrads Marathon, Argus Cycle Tour, Jock Cycle Tour, Doozy Canoe Marathon, Mid Mar swimming mile, etc.

The only requirements enabling a blind athlete to participate in these type of events is a regular and willing sighted partner, often refered to as a guide (In running and swimming) or a pilot (in cycling). Also additionally a tandem bicycle is used in cycling, and a double canoe in canoeing.
